In an interview with SWR, General (ret.) Hans-Lothar Domröse, former NATO commander, four-star general of the German Armed Forces, and Senior Advisor to the Agora Strategy Group AG, assesses the situation following the negotiations in Geneva on a peace plan, and makes clear what long-term security really means for Ukraine. Despite cautious hope, he warns of the Kremlin's harsh conditions and calls for credible deterrence mechanisms. A strong Ukrainian army, international protection forces at the border, and the country's free choice of alliances are indispensable, he says. Domröse emphasizes that only consistent support from the West can prevent Europe's security from being undermined at the negotiating table.
